Kashiwa Junior String Orchestra (KJSO) is the junior string orchestra in Kashiwa Shi, Chiba, Japan. KJSO was founded in 1983 in the former Shonan Cho as Shonan Junior String Orchestra (SJSO) by string-instrument players of elementary and junior-high school age. (Photo: the 1st concert)

Ever since KJSO has grown, so that the orchestra has become an extended string orchestra with the piano (harpsichord), the flute and the percussion. KJSO now welcomes adult members too.

In 1984 the orchestra joined the Shonan Cho Cultural League, and in 1996 was awarded by the Shonan Cho Board of Education for its contribution towards the extended education programs in the town. In 1997, The orchestra joined Shonan International Friendship Association (SIFA).

KJSO's main activities include a concert regularly given in March and apprearance in various cultural events in the city. In accordance with the merger of Shonan Cho into Kashiwa Shi as of March 28, 2005, the orchestra was renamed to KJSO on the same day.
